$20 Saint Gaudens Double Eagle

Product Info

President Theodore Roosevelt was inspired by an exhibition of ancient Greek coins at the Smithsonian. He felt as though American coins lacked style and beauty compared to the Grecian coins. In 1907, President Roosevelt chose famous American sculptor Augustus Saint Gaudens for the job. Saint Gaudens would pass shorty thereafter finishing the design. The 1933 Double Eagles would be the last of its kind. Many consider the $20 Saint Gauden the most beautiful coin in history.
